How do we ideally approach activities in the new year that we tend to put off, but which are key to business growth?
” This is a topic that absolutely everyone who runs a business and wants to grow is dealing with. The difference between a mediocre result and a truly strong business often lies not in knowledge, but in how one approaches things that are uncomfortable 🏆✨.
The first important step is to stop dramatizing these activities in your head. Most of the time we don’t put them off because they are difficult, but because we are trying to avoid them emotionally. Presentations, phone calls, reaching out to new people, or important conversations with the team are not technically difficult. They’re only uncomfortable until you do them. Once you realize that fear and resistance are only temporary, they will stop controlling you 💡.
The second thing is to change the perspective. These key activities are not something that takes energy away from you, but something that gives energy to your business. If you keep putting them off, the problem won’t go away, it will only get bigger. If you do them on time, you will free your mind and get a head start. I always try to look at these tasks as an investment, not an obligation 🔥.
The fixed time anchor also worked very well for me. I don’t tell myself I’ll ever do it. I give these activities a firm place on my mobile phone calendar, ideally at the start of my day when I want to quickly check in on the things I enjoy least, so that I can enjoy my subsequent coffee as if it’s a reward. When something is important for business growth, for most people, it shouldn’t be left until the end of the day as a residual time, as it could easily become a procrastination that you keep pushing it further ahead of you 🌟.
The environment and the system also play an important role. At Harmonelo today, we have clear tools, presentations, guidelines and lots of inspiration (including from our successful leaders) that greatly reduce the mental burden of these activities. Knowing exactly what to say, what to show and what the next step is removes much of the uncertainty that causes people to put things off. When you have everything ready and available, then any excuses are pointless – either I get on and do it, or I don’t and any talk around me gets me nowhere 🙌.
Finally, one leadership lesson again. Leaders don’t like to do everything, but they do it on time. They don’t wait until they feel like it. They make decisions based on what will move their team, their company forward. In the new year, if you get into the habit of tackling key things now, even if they’re not pleasant, you’ll take a huge step not only in business, but in your personal growth 🚀”
